elizabeth, styled for confirmation in february 2012

“we are young, so let’s set the world on fire, we can burn brighter than the sun” — fun.

hi readers! today i’m sharing some instagrams (follow me at @natalieallison!) of my cute-as-a-button client, miss elizabeth. elizabeth and i (and her lovely mother jean) had the greatest time selecting a look for elizabeth’s 8th grade confirmation. i remember what a big day this was for me, (many) years ago at the same school and church that elizabeth attends. selecting just the right dress is very important for the girls– it has to be the right mix of formal and conservative, yet youthful and fresh. i also wanted to help elizabeth find a timeless staple– a dress that she could wear over and over again and style in many different ways. one of the things i thought i might teach elizabeth about was the importance of quality, but a short amount of time into our shopping adventure i realized that she needed very little instruction, as she was already commenting on the differences in the quality of the material of the clothing at one store as opposed to another. such a smart girl!

as you can see from the instagrams, after quite a few adorable options elizabeth settled on an amazing dolan dress from piper. the photos do not do this dress justice– you aren’t quite able to see how the 100% silk dress layers over the cotton slip dress beneath, and how the back of the dress has a different sheer pattern than the front. this dress is certainly an investment piece, but it also met all of our qualifications. it can be dressed up for formal events such as confirmation, or dressed down for a casual day. it’s conservative and tasteful, but also youthful and trendy. most importantly, it’s a high quality dress with a timeless pattern (stripes) and elizabeth felt confident and like herself in it. we accessorized with a suede and patent toe-cap wedge with buckle-detail, which was winter appropriate for the february day, easy to walk in, formal and current. jean found elizabeth a few brushed gold jewelry items (necklace and earrings) from piper for a finishing touch, and elizabeth added a belt. the result is a beautiful age-appropriate look, perfect for elizabeth’s important day.

isn’t she just a doll? not to mention she has her modeling poses down, and needed no instructions to pose for the iPhone photos! we used these to help make our decision, but i thought they were too cute not to post. i can tell we have a budding fashionista on our hands!
xoxo natalie
